How I found my Superpower Gifts

I recently attended a 3 day Business Retreat called “Click” in Asheville with my coach and mentor, Christine Kane. I had never thought about what my superpower gifts were before then! At this event, I met about 150 of the most inspiring, intelligent, purposeful, smart, talented entrepreneurs I’ve ever been with in one place…Christine rocked us out of our comfort zones and called us to Become more of who we are called to be and to get out and share our SUPERPOWER Gifts with the world!

By the time I left I realized my Superpowers are “Visioning” what a space can become, guiding clients through that process and making them cry with tears of joy when the space has been transformed;)

In 2011 I went through Christine’s Uplevel Your Life program and it was a trans formative process of awakening and being called to live my dreams. That 7 week program helped me realize so many things! I was being called to BECOME both the Artist I’ve always known I am and a Professional Organizer.

That was a BIG year! I launched my business, went to Penland to explore my art and my husband and I packed up and left family and friends in DC to move to Charleston, SC without jobs lined up or much $$ left in the bank…it was the biggest leap of Faith I’ve taken so far and it’s been an amazing and rewarding ride.

What track are you on? Where will it lead you?

This is what it means to take imperfect action with intention and faith and it is the most rewarding action that will ALWAYS move you towards your truth.

I knew that Christine’s way of working with Soul and Strategy got me results and I continued to follow her over the past few years. Towards the end of last year, after losing a big client, I realized I was being called-pulled to once again UP my game again (because we always will be called and it’s our JOB to respond!) so I enrolled in another Christine program called Becoming 360.

Sometimes we have to uncover and make our roots visible to feel grounded!

This program helped me root into my current and future direction for my business and since then I’ve been working behind the scenes to make some BIG changes such as Re-launching my website, launching a newsletter for the first time and adding Virtual Organizing to my services…All of these changes and additions will be revealed at the first of next week and I can’t wait to share them with you!

I’m standing at the summit, envisioning all the future has to offer! Can you see it too?

So…this weekend my site might be down for a bit here and there as we work to migrate everything over to the new site. I am so excited about this and have been working with a fantastic web designer, Sarah of Dodeline Designs to make this transformation happen exactly as I envision it! I’ll see you on the new site very soon, have a wonderful weekend!

How Powerful we really are

Let’s talk about Power. Lately, I’ve given a lot of thought to the just how Powerful we really are capable of being. Do you think much about this?

I know I do, I mean it’s in my name! I thought it was pretty special when I became engaged to and finally married into the name Powers. What a POWERFUL last name to have! How could I not put this name to good use in my business and in my life? It wasn’t really until recently that I really started to think about PowerStudio and what a gift it is for me to get to know and get more comfortable with my own Power and how I can share this opportunity with others. It’s like a WORD of a LIFETIME (as opposed to word of the year).

Sometimes–we forget our Power…but then something magical happens.

This magic can come by way of solitude; a walk in nature, laying on a yoga mat, meditation or by way of gathering with a group of Powerful People! And we remember just how powerful we can be too.

Oh how easy it can be to forget though! Some days it seems like it takes a million affirmations and reminders to prop ourselves up. The last couple days have been like that for me. I’ve had a power crash. This can happen after something big and amazing comes along. Have you noticed this?

You experience an amazingly powerful shift and realize you are capable of anything! You are on a power HIGH! You know what you are capable of, you can visualize it, you are IN!

BUT then, the what if’s, fears, naysayers and old stories start to SCREAM in your head that you couldn’t possibly do this, no way, you will fail, not gonna happen, forget about it, just shrink back to where you belong alright already? What now?

OMG, shit, I had this plan, but it’s not gonna work, but I thought I could do this, but can I!? God, I’m so confused I don’t know what to do, I think I’ll just curl up into a ball and hide…maybe cry a little, feel sorry for myslelf, have a little or BIG pity Party? Yeah, that will make me feel better, oh crap, it’s not making me feel better I feel worse! I’ve got to stop thinking this way, I know it’s NOT TRUE!

Wait, what is that? I feel a glimmer of my power, it’s buried in there somewhere right? Maybe I can find some people to help me remember. I think I’ll just crawl out for a minute and see if I can find SOMEONE, ANYONE in my tribe to remind me.

And then you do and they do and you start to feel better, a little more powerful, a little stronger and you find the courage to come out a little further, a little further and you do something nurturing for yourself and you have a FRICKING Ephiphany! Wow, this is a moment! I realize that I have not only POWER but SUPERPOWERS (PLURAL)! I am not only good at stuff I’m FANTASTIC at some stuff, how did I forget that? Oh yeah, those fears.

Humm, what about fear? How does it affect my Power? I know it does, maybe I can just let go of those fears and my power will come back to me. Is that how it works? I’m trying, it doesn’t seem to be working, the fears are still eating away at me, scattering my energy, making me feel powerless. I just need a break from all this struggle, all this fear.

I think I’ll go for a _____(hike, yoga class, swim-you fill in the blank) so I can take a fricking BREAK from all this fear. I need some sweet relief for a minute, please Jesus, just give me some sweet relief from the fear and the feelings of powerlessness.

And there it is! Right in the middle of sweet surrender the gift of POWER is presented! Forgot about the fear, the fear didn’t have my attention. I remembered how POWERFUL I AM- I FELT IT!

Then I made a choice, I choose POWER. Guess what? When I choose power, fear recedes. It doesn’t know how to stand up to my power and I realize in that moment that all I have to do is CHOOSE my power over fear.

When I step into my power I release fear. It can not hold on any more. I choose my power! What do you choose, POWER OR FEAR? Don’t get swept away by fear…

Welcome Choice!

Welcome New Year, 2015! I love you already. Something shifted over the past few days and I’m feeling that sense of hope and excitement about new things to come. Over the past several years I’ve practiced the habit of choosing a word for the year…in 2011 it was CLARITY, 2012 I wanted to feel RADIANT, in 2013 I was ready to SOAR and this past year it’s been all about PLAY.

I’ve spent a good deal of time reflecting on the past year’s accomplishments, disappointments, opportunities and experiences and I’ve had some Choice words that have come to the forefront…and left me hanging. I’ve usually revealed what my word-of-the-year is by now but over the weekend I decided to back off from it despite the self imposed PRESSURE. I won’t run down the list of almosts but I had narrowed it down to 3 words and still they didn’t feel right!

I have learned over the past few years that whatever word I choose should really be one I’m ready and willing to explore.

Stuff comes to the surface when you set an intention, both good and bad (or not so easy). I’ve also learned to keep in mind the duplicity of words also…soaring was amazing but also painful as I was not prepared to dive into the depths of being sore!

As I let go and only reflected on the choice before me I realized that the choice itself was a lesson and a metaphor. After writing and seeking and finally resting and stepping back from this process I now see that CHOICE is my word of the year for 2015. Over the coming year I intend to pay attention to the choices that are mine to make by not giving my choices (my voice and power) away. Through intention and attention I will begin to notice the patterns of my choices. So much of our lives revolves around the choices we make. We are confronted with choices and decisions hundreds if not thousands of times a day.

By practicing my skills as a choice maker I know I will learn to manifest what I really want and how I want to feel in my life.

It seems so simple and obvious yet I know we ignore choices, divert them, make wrong choices and allow others to choose for us. Nope, no more of that for me. I will spend this year better understanding my choices! There are some great books out there about Choices and one I highly recommend called the 2 choices by Carrie Jolie Dale.

There are still over 350 days left in the year and it’s not too late to choose well!

Reflecting on a Playful Year

Farewell 2014-it’s been a super FUN year! Over the past week which included travel to visit family I managed to squeeze in some time reflecting upon this past year. Part of my ritual is to write, meditate on and dig into what the past year was all about in order to set intentions on where I’m headed in the year to come.

I choose the word PLAY for 2014. I tend towards the serious side and although this can be good at times it can feel heavy. So I really just wanted to lighten up and have fun with life, who doesn’t? Through exploration of what the word play means to me and inviting playfulness into my daily life, I did some scary, risky, adventurous and Fun things this past year!

Highlights and Gratitude for 2014

Interviewed 21 amazing and talented artists for the Inside the Artist Studio blog series (of course this will continue in 2015)
Continued teaching a variety of creative classes at Spacecraft Studio (I’ll continue this in 2015)
Consulted for FabricMaker; traveling to trade shows in Florida and Washington DC & State. Created patterns and class content as well as hosting 10 webinars!
10 new and 6 loyal continuing organizing clients!
1 new textile consulting client (and another on the horizon:)
Working and Playing with Indigo including helping Sea Island Indigo with workshops in Ossabaw and Charleston
Began weaving again…and it’s like coming home!
Driving to Beaufort weekly for four months to inventory 5 storage units full of personal and household belongings….and submitting 13 pack out lists containing over 3000 items (all photographed and listed)! Whew!
Adopting another sweet little kitty into our Family-Miss Mae
Had my first experience with a psychic reading or Divination:)
Completed a 7 week online business coaching program called Becoming 360 with Christine Kane, wonderful!
Attended inspiring and insightful workshops and lectures at the Sophia Institute.
Celebrated our 10 wedding year anniversary!
Traveled to Maine for our anniversary vacation and visited with friends! This trip was spectacular with peak fall color and visits to Acadia National Park and other glorious places along the coast.
Volunteered as President of my neighborhood association-continued:)-and organizing a fantastic neighborhood party in the spring!
Volunteered as VP and Programs Director for NAPO Charleston-and organized our 1st annual GO Month Symposium (our 2nd is on January 10th if your in Charleston!)
Volunteered with the SC Master Gardeners and Horticulture Society
Enjoyed friends and family visiting us and a holiday trip to Florida in December (so blessed to have three Grandparents all between the ages of 94-96!)
Danced Joyfully and regularly!

Throughout ALL my accomplishments, adventures and challenges this year I’ve keep PLAY close to my heart. This word really helped me feel Playful through difficult times, serious times, fun times, everyday routines, work with my clients and relating to friends, family and community. I took risks and enjoyed myself so much because I was able to see things in a lighter and more playful way. I had the best role models ever to teach me, thanks, Miss Mae and Little Bee for being so incredibly inspiringly PLAYFUL, every day!

Wednesday Wellness::The Great Purge Urge

For the past month, maybe 6 weeks even, I’ve had this very strong desire to purge things. I’ve come to recognize this “Great Purge Urge” and I seize the opportunity when it strikes!

When I’m in this Mindset, I know I will act with certainty in decision making and get a lot more accomplished in a short amount of time then if I just pick away at the process little by little.

Sometimes this urge just comes out of the blue, maybe it’s an astrological event or some other outside influence I’m unaware of but I don’t generally care why it’s happening.

What I know from experience is that getting started, making quick choices and continuing eagerly creates momentum.

This type of action and the momentum generated can be LIFE CHANGING! It’s for this exact reason that I work the way I do, in 3 hr (or longer) time slots and with appointments scheduled frequently (multiple days in a week or month).

Things get DONE, progress happens quickly, SPACE EMERGES where there was none.
